Are Quiet Drive central vacuum accessories compatible with
my brand of central vacuums?
The unique thing about central vacuums is the attachment sets are
not directly connected to the vacuum and so offer you the opportunity
to purchase and use the central vacuum accessories that best meet
your cleaning needs. The wall inlets are manufactured by a limited
number of suppliers, to industry agreed designs, and so are are common
to most brands of central vacuums. Since the Quiet Drive central vacuum
accessories connect to these standard valve designs they are compatible
with all major brands of central vacuum assuming you purchase the
hose design that fits the inlet valves in your home.
There are two basic styles of inlets valves sold with central vacuums.
One style has both high voltage and low voltage connecting points
designed into the inlet valve. Both the high volt connection to power
an electric nozzle and the low volt connection for on off control
of the central vacuum power unit are made when the specially design
hose end is pushed into the inlet. The industry calls these specially
design inlets direct connect valves. They are commonly seen on central
vacuum installations in the United Stares, Canada, and Mexico.
The critical design elements of these valves are subject to UL / CSA
requirements for safety and the direct connect hose end is designed
to work with these inlets valves and meet the same safety requirements
associated with the design.
The second inlet style makes only the low volt connection in the inlet
valve permitting the customer to turn their central vacuum power unit
on or off from the end of the central vacuum hose. These types of
inlets are the most common especially in older homes built prior to
the introduction of direct connect valves, in homes with very limited
carpet surfaces, and in homes where the contractor decided against
the added cost of direct connect wall inlets. Again these central
vacuum inlets are for the most part common in design concept permitting
a common central vacuum hose connection in the majority of cases.
To allow the customer the option of using central vacuum accessory
tools with an electric brush for carpeted surfaces a special hose
end has been developed to permit a connection to standard electric
outlets in the home. These hose ends fits into the inlet valve making
the low volt hose connection permitting the on off control of the
central vacuum. Reversing out of the hose end is an electric cord
with standard polarized electrical plug which makes the high voltage
connection necessary for operation of your electric floor nozzle.
There have been a few unique designs of central vacuum wall inlets
sold over the years. To accommodate these and to permit the consumer
the ability to adjust the amount of pressure necessary to insert their
hose end into the inlet valve the Quiet Drive hose has two small tabs
designed into the wall end that can be adjusted in height using a
small file. We suggest you adjust only one of than tabs at a time
trying the fit in your wall valve with each adjustment until you find
the fit compatible with these unique inlets or the amount of pressure
you prefer when inserting you hose not the inlet. Keep in mind you
want the hose to be snug in the inlet to prevent leakage or it falling
out when your vacuuming.
There are virtually no applications where if you select the appropriate
hose end for your style of wall inlets a Quiet Drive central vacuum
attachment set won't work with your central vacuum system. We have
